Shanghai University of Electric Power

Shanghai University of Electric Power is a full-time undergraduate institution jointly built by the central government and the Shanghai municipal government, with the Shanghai municipal government as the main administrator. The university was founded in 1951, upgraded to a undergraduate institution in January 1985, and renamed Shanghai Electric Power College. In December 2018, it was renamed Shanghai University of Electric Power with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The university has two campuses, Yangpu and Pudong, with more than 14,000 full-time students and over 1,000 faculty and staff.

The university's motto is "Love of country, diligence, pragmatism, and progress". It adheres to the principle of "focusing on electric power, focusing on application, and focusing on the front line", and upholds the educational philosophy of "practical application, enlightenment, and far-sightedness". The university is committed to deepening reforms, accelerating the development of its internal structure, and improving its educational scale, quality, and international influence. It has gradually developed into a higher education institution with a focus on engineering and prominent specialties in energy and power, as well as coordinated development in multiple disciplines such as science, management, economics, and humanities.

The school has 13 secondary colleges and 38 undergraduate majors, including the School of Energy and Mechanical Engineering, the School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Automation Engineering, the School of Computer Science and Technology, the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Mathematics and Physics, the School of Foreign Languages, the Continuing Education College (International Education College) including the Shanghai New Energy Talent Technology Education Exchange Center, the Marxism College, the Sports College, and the School of Humanities and Arts.

The school has three national characteristic majors, five national first-class undergraduate majors, one comprehensive reform pilot major of the Ministry of Education, five Shanghai first-class undergraduate majors, and two comprehensive reform pilot majors in Shanghai. It has one Shanghai IV peak discipline, one plateau discipline, one Shanghai first-class discipline, six Shanghai key disciplines, and five key disciplines of the Municipal Education Commission.

Currently, it has seven academic master's degree authorization points for first-level disciplines, including Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Physics, Information and Communication Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, and Management Science and Engineering. It has four professional degree master's degree authorization points, including Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Information, Energy and Power, and Engineering Management. In 2018, the school was approved as a doctoral degree granting unit, and the discipline of Electrical Engineering was approved as a doctoral degree authorization point.
